On paper Rocky Mountain looked like it would be the dominant team but this game showed that Mountain Home has got talent. The Tigers looked to go inside most of the game and senior forward Aaron Hobbs was their go to guy. The first quarter was sloppy, ending with Rocky up 10-8. Grizzly guard Ryan Skurdal scored 8 of the 10 but the story was turnovers for both teams.
In the second quarter Mountain Home went mostly to a zone and Rocky struggled to get shots to drop. Meanwhile, Hobbs and Anthony Barboza would help the Tigers take the lead and eventually go up by 13. They would go into halftime up 11, 28-17.
Coming out of the locker room, Rocky Mountain started to tighten up their defense. They forced a lot of turnovers but unlike the first half, these turnovers led to easy transition baskets. Plus, they were getting every loose ball and the momentum began to swing Rocky’s way. Hobbs was still playing well for Mountain Home but Rocky freshman John Sherle neutralized things with his 5 points off the bench. Mountain Home led just 39-35 after the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was mostly the same. Rocky started to get a lot more patient against the Mountain Home zone to get better looks. At the 3:13 mark the Grizzlies took the lead on a Levi Altringer basket. Riley Bruneel started to finish his layups and Bryce Feist was able to create some timely steals. Skurdal hit on his free throws down the stretch and Rocky came away with their second win of the year, 59-49.
