It was a very balanced night from Capital High School. Vallivue would pull away with the 58-54 win but both teams made plays throughout the night. There wasn’t any one player that dominated as both teams spread the ball around.
Vallivue and Capital both showed various defenses. Vallivue used some 1-2-2 full court trap at times while Capital threw in the occasional 1-3-1 token pressure.
For Capital, Timofey Rezonovich was doing a lot of everything. He was big on the boards and on defense and Rezonovich and the Capital guards worked their pick and roll well, getting him the ball in the key on the move.
Vallivue’s offense was a Memphis style drive and kick, though they work in a lot of on ball screens. They are a smaller team but the guards can really shoot and they have the green light to find their shot. Drew Osburn and Dexter Barnes had good nights with about 10 3-pointers between them.
Vallivue was poised to run away with things early in the fourth quarter but Justin Mills and Greg Jensen kept Capital in it. Mills is one of the quickest guards in the league. He hit some big 3’s and Jensen made some late jumpers and hit his free throws down the stretch. But another 3-pointer from Barnes and a couple free throws from freshman Noah Williams sealed the win for Vallivue.
