The end of the year is always a time of reflection. For the last two years, starting in 2008, we have put together a few of the top Idaho basketball stories and let you vote on your favorite story of the year.
This year, we want to open it up to you and let you nominate your favorite story. The top stories will be put to a vote.
If you know of a story that you think should be nominated, either comment on it here or send an email to newsletter@idahoselect.org. We’ll take nominations through January 4, 2011.
Here are the criteria: the story must have predominantly happened in 2010, it must revolve around an Idaho-based subject, it must be a basketball related story.
Past winners include:
- Idaho Stampede win the D-league title (2008)
- Skyview boys put in overtime to win state title (2009)
Past nominations have included:
- Coeur d’ Alene girls make back to back titles look perfect
- Firth boys make it three straight
- Bryan Gates makes it to the NBA
- Boise State men and women win their share of the WAC
- University of Idaho cleans both the men’s and women’s house

Well I know I am biased, but I have to give it to Rocky Mountain for winning the consolation championship and only being a 2nd year program. Coming back from the beating they took from Eagle to win three straight after that and to beat Valivue int he final game. Think it is a great “Rocky” story of the underdog doing better than expected…maybe not winning the whole thing, but making it to State when some schools never make it there and to have come to win at the end…I think they are true Champions!!!
Emmy Roy is nearing his 700th career coaching victory at Centennial High school. To my knowledge, this is the most in the states history. Coach Roy won a total of 9 ID state girls basketball championships at both Meridian High and Centennial. I believe Coach Roy’s remarkable record should be considered for the 2010 story of the year.
The North JV Girls won their game (hard fought) against Fairmont last night to clinch the city championship for two years running… 28-27…two years record…way to go NORTH JV girls…
