Black started out fast but quickly cooled off, giving Aim High momentum and a run that extended to an 18 point lead. The guys fought back late to cut the lead but could never bring it to within the the final margin of 7. Nygaard led all Idaho scorers with 17 points. McCarthy scored 12 and Nebeker added 11.
In the second game, the guys came out with more focus and played much harder. Texas was the most athletic of the pool teams and eventually finished with an 8 point win, 57-65. McCarthy scored 17 p0ints while Nebeker and Bradshaw each scored 11.
White (17U) lost their day opener to the EC Pioneers, 65-94. The Pioneers recently won the NW Premier Showcase in Seattle and extended their current winning streak to 9 games.
The guys bounced back in their second game through defense and smarter play. They beat California’s Prodigy 61-50 to finish second in their pool. They got 15 points from Wilkinson and 14 points from Maffey. They will open up bracket play tomorrow (Sunday) at 7:00 PM.
The Green (15U) team got their first win of the tournament this morning with a win over the New Mexico Force. While the guys looked good on offense (Navarro and Stanley each scored 17, Lado added 12) it was the team’s defense that made the biggest difference. They will finish their pool play Sunday morning.
Red (14U) continued to win games in their pool, beating Tarheel Nation from California 46-31. Establishing an early inside presence, the Tarheels were forced to settle for tough outside shots while Red was able to score easier and on more occasions. They also wrap up their pool play tomorrow.
