Wilkinson voted as pre-season 5A Player of the Year

After two weeks of voting, Clark Wilkinson, a junior from Highland, was selected the pre-season 5A Player of the Year by our voters with 50% of the votes.

The list of candidates for the 5A Player of the Year started with four returning all-state players from last season. Post Falls’ Marcus Colbert jumped out to an early lead but as the voting progressed, Wilkinson (who already has an offer from Idaho State University) started to gain momentum as a write in candidates.

The results, including the write in candidates, paint a picture of Northern and Eastern Idaho balance (in addition to Wilkinson, Sean McCarthy from Idaho Falls was also written in) but a slight edge in Southern Idaho, with several players receiving write in votes. But you would expect that with 10 5A teams in the South and only 4 in the North and 3 in the East. The big question is not who will be the best player in the state. The real question is which player or players are going to lead their team to the state tournament? We all know it takes more than one great player to win a championship. It’s always a team effort.

Now up is the 4A and the 3A player of the year. Click here to vote.
