Idaho Select builds basketball skills through various programs

8th grade program dedicated to developing basketball skills

Back for its second year, the 8th grade boys program will be going again this fall. The program runs November – December with an initial evaluation on Saturday, October 29. All players must attend the evaluation. From there, Idaho Select coaches will select 16-20 players to participate. The goal of the program is to enhance a player’s basketball skills.

Coaching staff

This year, we are pleased to announce we have another fantastic coaching staff that will work with the boys. Clint Hordemann, Idaho Select’s Director of Player Development will oversee the program. In addition, Bryan Champ and Shane Moser will be the head coaches of the teams.

Champ enters his second year with Idaho Select as a coach. The College of Idaho dual sport (basketball and baseball) graduate and Boise native has coached in both the spring and summer programs for Idaho Select.

Moser recently graduated from the University of Portland and is from Lewiston, Idaho. But he is no stranger to Idaho Select or coaching. He played with Idaho Select for two summers in high school and led Lewiston High School to three state tournament appearances. At Portland, he played in six games for the Pilots as a freshman but then took a position with the women’s program as an assistant coach with the women’s program. He graduated with an engineering degree and currently works at Micron Technologies.

Developing your basketball skills

Both programs are designed for players that are dedicated to improving their basketball skills. This is not for the casual player that just looking for something to do. While we will have a lot of fun, players will be committed to participating in all or most of the practice sessions AND putting in time after practices on their own.

Practices will be held 2-3 times per week with the main focus on skill development. If some local tournaments are available and we have enough players that would like to play we may do that as well.

We are excited to be able to offer these off season programs! The growth that we saw in our players from last year was very encouraging and we look forward to the continuation of that growth this year.
