It was a great game from Rocky Mountain High School as Eagle Mustangs came out on top 61-54. Both teams fought hard and were impressive on defense.
Rocky would go into the half with a 28-24 lead behind the offensive outburst of senior David Trompke. And Elija Slayden was also impressive. Just a sophomore, Slayden seemed to get his hand on every ball that came near him, played solid defense on Eagle’s Braiden Shaw and got his team extra shots. But the inside play Ryan Patton and several Rocky turnovers helped Eagle stay in the game.
The third quarter belonged to the Mustangs. They were more aggressive and caught Rocky sleeping coming out of the lockerroom. They would build a small lead heading into the fourth quarter.
As fourth quarter began, you could tell the teams were in for a battle. Both teams were diving for loose balls and making big plays. But it was the non-stop slew of big plays from Eagle senior Brandon Tatko that made the difference for the Mustangs. He made pull up jumpers, drives and even completed a four-point play. With what seemed like 14 points in the fourth, Tatko carried his team to the win.
