How young can a player start with Idaho Select?

This Saturday, January 14 Idaho Select will be starting Session II of our high school winter program (for boys in the 9th and 10th grade). Then this March we will have tryouts for our spring teams that range as young as 7th grade. We tried to remember how young some of our players were when they first started playing with Idaho Select. It turns out there are quite a few that started very early with us.

Mitch Bruneel celebrates after hitting a 3-pointer in his first Utah State game

This is the first year that Idaho Select has hosted a 7th grade team program. Up until now our teams had only been as young as 8th grade. So far things have gone great with the 7th graders. So we started looking back at some of our players and when they started with Idaho Select. It was fun to remember how young some of these kids were and how far they’ve come.

Mitch Bruneel – started attending Idaho Select camps as a freshman and also played in the summer and spring. He is now on a full ride scholarship to Utah State.

Joey Nebeker – started playing on Idaho Select teams as an 8th grader. He is currently a senior at Melba High School and has signed a full ride scholarship to Boise State.

Tyson Percifield – started playing with Idaho Select as a freshman. He currently has a full ride scholarship to Carroll College in Montana.

Sean McCarthy – recently signed a scholarship to play at Vanguard University in California. He is a senior at Idaho Falls High School and started playing with Idaho Select after his freshman year.

McKay Cannon – now just a junior at Shelley High School, Cannon has already received a full ride offer from Idaho State University and the College of Southern Idaho. He began playing for Idaho Select as an 8th grader.

Tanner Mangum and David Trompke – These seniors both started playing with Idaho Select in the 8th grade. Mangum will be playing football at Brigham Young University and Trompke will be running track at Harvard

This just names a few of the kids that have come through the program. There are lot more that are on to other great opportunities and now help their communities as engineers, teachers, etc. And there are even more great players that will be graduating soon.
