What looked like it could be a very slow game from Borah High School, the Patriots and Lions finished with a fury and the Lions coming out on top 51-43.
Borah got out to a 13 to 7 lead in the first quarter and held that lead for most of the game. Centennial closed the gap and tied the game at 38 with three minutes remaining.
But, critical turnovers by Centennial gave Borah the few extra opportunities they needed. They hit their free throws to lock in their win and have now built a solid lead in the 5A SIC standings.
With four games to go in the regular season, Borah has a three game lead. Centennial and Mountain View aren’t out of the running but they will need Borah to stumble if they want the top spot in the district tournament. The battle between Centennial and Mountain View for the number two spot could be important for the district tournament as the number three seed may open up with a sporadic but potentially lethal Timberline or Eagle team in the sixth spot. Centennial hosts Mountain View next Wednesday.
