It’s the first day of the Double Pump Spring Classic in Las Vegas. Most Idaho clubs started their days early, some leaving for Sin City as early as 4:30 AM.
In this year’s field from Idaho are Idaho Select (17U Gold, 16U and 15U), Boise Flight (17U Silver and 16U) and Boise Slam (17U Silver).
Idaho Select Black (17U Gold) opened with Nevada Hoop Stars. The guys came out a little sluggish after the 10 hour bus ride against the local team and it showed initially. But, in front of coaches from Montana, Montana State, Idaho, Portland State, Portland, Eastern Washington, UC Santa Barbra and UC Davis, the team hung in, scrapped and battled from an 8 point deficit to tie the game at 31 at the half. Clark Wilkinson (Highland) was the main force for Idaho.
In the second half, Nevada would again extend to an 8 point lead. But Wilkinson continued to make his presence felt and McKay Cannon (Shelley) started to heat up. But it was Nate Bruneel (Rocky Mountain) that would have the ultimate impact.
With no time left on the clock and down 68-71, Bruneel would hit a three pointer and get fouled. He calmly stepped to free throw line and knocked down the winning free throw. Idaho will now take on LAX Saturday at 10:10 AM.
Cannon finished with 23 points and Wilkinson scored 20 in the win.
