Top club basketball teams to watch in the 17U Division

During the recent evaluation period, Utah Basketball Club Elite got nice wins over Pump N Run Elite, Emerald City Pioneers and Arizona Power at the Double Pump Hoop Fest in southern California. They finished the weekend at 4-0. Their roster features 6’5 Noah Togiai, a 2015 that has committed to Utah. They also have Jarriesse Blackmon, a 6’6 SF that is getting Division I interest but doesn’t yet have offers at that level. Due to an injury, they will be without highly sought after Malek Harwell, a 6’4 PG with multiple Division I offers.

Anthony Davis Select made it to the final four at the Pangos Spring Spectacular in Las Vegas during the evaluation period. They finished at 4-1 and were led by point guard Stefan Gonzalez and forward Tres Tinkle. Gonzalez and Tinkle but have multiple Division I offers. Plus they have a solid group surrounding their core.

The NorCal Warriors competed at the Nor Cal Spring Showcase, hosted by Hoop Review and Gerry Freitas. Several players were noted in his write up that will be attending the tournament this weekend.

Clutch Players also were also at the Spring Showcase and they, too, had several players mentioned in Freitas’s write up.

Clutch Players bring 2 club basketball teams from Oregon. This is their second year at the NPI.

Back to Las Vegas at the Bigfoot Tip Off Classic, Elite 24 Black finished 4-1 and made it to the finals of their platinum bracket. They feature several unsigned seniors that college coaches will want to keep an eye on this weekend.

Cache Valley Elite was also in Las Vegas at the Bigfoot Tip Off Classic. They finished 2-2 and got solid performances from Tyler Brimhall, Cole Critchfield and Jonathan Huff.

Two club basketball teams that stayed in the northwest for the eval period were CBA Select and Roots Basketball. CBA Select finished 2-2 at the NW Premier Spring Showcase at Bellevue College, competing in the top division. Roots competed in the second division and went a perfect 5-0.

The tournament is set up so that any team can win the overall championship. And several other teams have a legitimate chance to bring it home.

Division: 16U

The 16U Division brings in 19 club basketball teams and they are solid. From California to Montana, several teams have already had success.

We start the 16U division, again, with the Utah Basketball Club and their Black team. They finished 2-1 with solid wins in SoCal.

Up at Bellevue College, Boise Slam and CBA Select became familiar. The faced off in the B Bracket championship game with Boise Slam grabbing a 3 point win.

CBA Select will have a tough early match up in their pool when they take on Cache Valley Elite. Cache Valley won the Bigfoot Tip Off Classic in Las Vegas.

Cache Valley Elite won the championship, but they had to earn it against a tough Elite 24 team, whom they faced in the championship game.

We expect the NPI to be one of the top non-NCAA certified period club basketball tournaments of the spring.
