Rose City Showcase Brings In Top Basketball Talent To Portland

This weekend, Portland will host the 12th Rose City Showcase, featuring some of the top club basketball teams in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, California and Nevada. While there are several divisions for boys and girls teams, the top billed teams will be playing at Lewis & Clark College starting on Friday afternoon. Here’s a look at this year’s Rose City Showcase.

Rose City Showcase Top Four

#1 Team FAST (OR) – FAST is led by Anthony Mathis (2015), Payton Pritchard (2016) and Eli Lininger (2015). Mathis has committed to New Mexico and Lininger has committed to Yale. Pritchard is heavily recruited by a lot of high majors but has not committed at this point. The club basketball team went 9-7 in the adidas Gauntlet league this spring. This team is no stranger to Portland and you can see why they’ve earned the top seed at this year’s Rose City Showcase.

#2 Superior Athletes (CA) – They are currently ranked #23 in the nation according to Indihoops.com. Kendall Small (2015) has committed to Oregon, Jeremy Hemsley (2015) has committed to San Diego State and Stephen Thompson (2015) is being recruited by a bunch of high majors. They recently went 4-0 at the Double Pump Spring Classic.

#3 Simply Fundamental (NV) – They are led by Derryck Thornton Jr. (2015) who is being recruited by, well, almost everyone. They won the Silver Bracket at the Pangos Spring Spectacular in Las Vegas this past spring.

#4 Northwest XPress (WA/OR) – The XPress is loaded with talent on their roster. On Tuesday, Dejounte Murray (2015) committed to the University of Washington. Keith Smith Jr. (2016) also holds Pac 12 offers and Alphonso Anderson (2016) has an offer from Boise State. Greyson Smallwood (2015) is also an intriguing player that has an offer from Texas A&M. The team competed in the Nike EYBL this spring, finishing with a 5-12 record.

Rose City Showcase #5 through #8

#5 I-5 Elite (OR) – I-5 is one of the more mature teams in the Showcase, with several seniors on their roster. But the most intriguing player may be Jazz Johsnon (2015), their PG that has committed to Portland and that fans in the Rose City are already familiar with.

#6 Anthony Davis Select / Idaho Select (ID/MT) – AD Select finished third in the Pangos Spring Spectacular Invitational Division and second in the Northwest Premier Invitational. They are led by PG Stefan Gonzalez (2015) and SF Tres Tinkle (2015). Gonzalez is getting a lot of Big Sky interest and offers while Tinkle holds offers from the Pac 12 and ACC. Their roster is full of guys that know how to do their jobs and will find a college roster.

#7 Seattle Rotary (WA) – Rotary is a bit of a mystery heading in to the Rose City Showcase. Several of their players from last year now play for XPress so who is on their roster this weekend is unknown. But his program has a long history of success so whomever is on the floor will be ready to compete.

#8 D.R.I.V.E. Elite (Canada) – DRIVE is one of the up and coming club basketball programs from the BC region. They’ve really broken on to the travel scene in the last few years, winning or going deep in several local tournaments. Their roster includes Jermaine Haley (2016) who is getting offers across the country from all the high major conferences.
