Generally, we like to keep the focus of Idaho Select attention on the players – how they are doing, their recruitment, etc. But this post is change of pace.
We’ve always been proud of our Idaho Select coaches. They are great for our kids, help their players develop and give them opportunities to be successful. They are some of the best travel ball / AAU coaches in the country.
But it is not an accident.
The reality is that Idaho Select coaches are professionals. They make their livings by coaching and working with young people. Here is a look at the Idaho Select coaches from the previous year and where they are coaching today.
Idaho Select Coaches and Their Full Time Professions
Ben Tucker – Ben Tucker coached the Idaho Select 15U team in the spring. He was set to coach in the summer as well, before opportunity came knocking. After a season as the assistant coach at the College of Idaho last year, his alma mater, the University of Arizona, offered him a position on their staff. He is now the Assistant Director of Basketball Operations for the Wildcats. Click here to read his bio.

Colby Blaine – When Ben Tucker left his position at the College of Idaho, it opened up an opportunity. Colby Blaine ceased it. The long time Idaho Select coach who was previously at the College of Southern Idaho is now the Assistant Coach for the Yotes. This past summer he coached the Idaho Select 16U Blue team. Bobby Howard – Bobby Howard is known as a standout player from Montana State. But he is building a reputation as an up and coming college coach. Howard coached the Idaho Select 16U Red team this past spring and summer. He was previously an assistant coach at Minot State and Montana Western before becoming the Assistant Coach at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Click here for his bio.
Drew Church – Coming full circle, Drew Church was not only the Idaho Select 17U White coach the past two summers, he is also a former Idaho Select player. Church enters his fourth season as an assistant coach at Lewis-Clark State College. Click here for his bio.
Kevin Morales – Following a Montana Class AA state title run with Billings-Skyview High School, Morales coached the 15U Montana Select team in the summer of 2015.
Kyle Erickson – Erickson is currently the assistant women’s coach at Rocky Mountain College in Montana. This past summer he coached the Montana Select 17U team.
Jordan Overstreet – The women’s varsity coach at Ennis High School in Montana, Overstreet coached the Montana Select 16U team.
Joel Ryman – Coaching alongside Paul Rush as an assistant at Capital High School, Joel Ryman coached the Idaho Select 17U White team this past spring. Ryman is also a big part of Gates of Hope. Click here fore more information on Gates of Hope.
Former Idaho Select coaches that still make coaching their profession
Shelby Lindley – After two years as an Idaho Select coach, Shelby Lindley got his big break. He had spent time as an assistant coach at Northwest Nazarene University and at Idaho State. He then took the assistant position at Central Wyoming. After about a week of practice, he moved in to the interim head coaching position where he would lead the team to the most wins in school history. Though he didn’t get the full time head position, he proved he was the real deal. He is currently an assistant coach at the College of Southern Idaho. Click here for his bio.
Paul Rush – Paul Rush coached with Idaho Select for several years and still remains in close contact with the program. He is currently the assistant coach at Northwest Nazarene University following a successful run as the head boys varsity coach at Capital High School, which included one 5A State Championship run with a 26-0 record. Alex Wells – After several years as an assistant at Walla Walla Community College and then a season at Marshalltown Community College, Alex Wells is now the boys varsity head coach at Eagle High School. Wells has coached several different teams for Idaho Select. Click here for his bio.
Alex Carlson – Alex Carlson is the head women’s coach at Southern Oregon University following two years as an assistant with the University of Alaska-Anchorage. He coached Idaho Select teams in 2008 and 2009 while he was the graduate assistant at Boise State University. Click here to read his bio.
