Stefan Gonzalez recently broke the Highland High School all time scoring record. Click here for a link in the Idaho State Journal. This led him to being named the Player of the Week. Click here to see his interview.

Gonzalez wasn’t the only Idaho Select player recognized for their performances this past week. Alum Mitch Bruneel had a great week with Utah Valley University, including a 27 point, 11 rebound game in a win over Seattle. Bruneel was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Staying with college, two Idaho Select alumni had big impacts in leading their football teams to bowl victories. Taylor Kelley led #12 Arizona State to a win over Duke in the Sun Bowl, where he threw for 240 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 24 yards.

Dan Goodale and his #16 Boise State Broncos grabbed another Fiesta Bowl victory over Arizona. Goodale was 1 for 1 on field goal attempts and went 5 for 5 on extra points.

Gates of Hope

Idaho Select coach Joel Ryman is more than just a coach. Along with his assistant coaching duties for Capital High School, Ryman is the Director of Marketing and Outreach for Gates of Hope, a non-profit that strives to empower local and international communities to stand for the less fortunate.

This Friday night, January 16, 2015 at Eagle High School, Eagle and Capital will square off in more than just your typical Southern Idaho Conference battle. Eagle head coach Alex Wells and Capital coach Paul Rush agreed to dedicate the game to raising awareness and funding for Gates of Hope and will feature special events and items through out the game.

Both teams will warm up in Gates of Hope shirts while the Eagle cheerleaders will also feature Gates of Hope attire. During the game Gates of Hope shirts will be tossed to the crowd. Additionally, an iPad will be raffled off and a silent auction that includes items like golf packages, dinners and more will give fans a chance to get some great items. The proceeds from the raffle and the auction will be donated back to Gates of Hope.

It promises to be a fun and exciting name. The game starts at 7:30 PM but fans may want to get there early as it is expected to have a large attendance.
