This May, we will be opening up the rosters for all of our summer teams that will be playing in NCAA certified tournaments in July. There will be teams for 15U, 16U and 17U and teams will play in three certified events. We expect to have 5 teams from Idaho and, new this summer, 3-5 teams based out of Montana.
Idaho Select Tryouts
For Idaho players, or any player that resides in a state that borders on Idaho, the tryouts will be on May 15-16 at Eagle High School. As in past years, the tryouts will coincide with a Transition Hoops Showcase. Registration will take place on the transitionhoops.com website but you will actually be registered for both the tryouts and the showcase, giving you more value.
The tryouts will consist of sessions on Friday evening as well as two sessions on Saturday. There will also be a recruiting 101 session for all players and parents that are more interested in how the college basketball recruiting process works.

Montana Select Tryouts
For Montana players, or any player that resides in a state that borders on Montana, your tryouts will be on May 30 in Missoula and on May 31 in Billings (you don’t need to attend both unless you want to). Just like the Idaho tryouts, the Montana tryouts will coincide with a Transition Hoops Showcase.
The Missoula tryout will be at Big Sky High School and will have 2 sessions with a recruiting seminar in between for players and parents. The Billings showcase will be a longer single session at MSU-Billings following the high school tournament happening there.

Why two different Select teams?
We often get the question of why have two separate teams? The reason is due to the NCAA restrictions placed on team rosters for teams competing in NCAA certified events. Teams are only allowed three roster spots for players that reside outside of the team’s main headquarters. Although Idaho Select has always welcomed and encouraged players from outside Idaho to play, we have found there is way too much talent to be restricted to just three out of state roster spots. By offering Montana Select teams based in Montana we are able to offer more spots to Montana players that want the the opportunity to compete at a high level in front of college coaches.
This does not mean that Montana players can’t play on Idaho teams or vice versa. It just means there are going to be a lot more opportunities for players to play.
