For the Idaho Select Las Vegas trip, the program took six teams to compete against a wide variety of teams in the west. The Las Vegas tournaments provide a new set up match ups compared to the Seattle tournament, giving us some great competition against more teams from Southern California, Nevada and Arizona. The 17U, 16U and 15U teams all competed at the Double Pump Spring Classic. The Classic doesn’t have a 14U division so that team competed at the Bigfoot Grand Opening.
HOW THE TEAMS DID
Idaho Select 17U Black – the team was placed in the Open Showcase division, which is reserved for the top 18 teams. Unlike tournament style play, each team plays 4 games against another team in the Open, giving college coaches a full weekend of guaranteed high level match ups. Each team in the Open featured multiple Division I players and fielded deep rosters. The Black team finished 1-3 in the Open and the guys’ performances convinced coaches they are college level material. Following the weekend, we received calls ranging from the Pac-12 through the GNAC. Tre’von Allen received an offer from Eastern Washington.
Idaho Select 17U White – The White faced some tough match ups and finished at 0-3 in the Gold division. It was an eye opening experience and taught the players that you need to come ready to play on every single possession.
Idaho Select 16U Red – The Red team continued to play well. They finished 2-1, concluding the weekend with a win over Pump N Run.
Idaho Select 16U Blue – The Blue team also had a great weekend. They finished at 2-1 with their only loss coming at the hands of the 16U champions, Arizona D1 Nation. They also showed they can finish when it matters as they won their first game in 4 overtimes and then won their last game in 2 overtimes.
Idaho Select 15U Green – After a slow start in their first game, Green turned the corner to get to the semi-finals of the Consolation bracket before losing to IEBP, the consolation champs. They finished the weekend at 2-2.
Idaho Select 14U Gold – The Gold team continued to improve this past weekend. They finished second in their pool and then went all the way to the Gold Bracket championship game where they lost to Tru Heat out of Arizona. They finished at 3-2 with both losses coming short by just one point.
