In episode 8, James Johnson sits down with The Pivot and covers everything related to running AAU basketball tournaments.
We talk about what running an independent tournament circuit is like (The Hoop Circuit competes with the Nike EYBL, the adidas Guantlet, and the Under Armour Association) and why relationships are so important. We also cover player rankings, the importance of geography in recruiting, and the strategies for getting the most college coaches to attend your games.
James and The Hoop Circuit are based in Salem, Oregon. But his travels and the circuit go well beyond the Oregon borders. James played basketball at Western Carolina and has also spent time in Ohio and Wisconsin. The Hoop Circuit has tournaments in Oregon, Southern California, and Northern California.
