Before you commit, ask these questions

Make the Right Choice for Your Future

Tryouts are more than just a chance for players to make a team—they’re also an opportunity for families to evaluate programs. We encourage every player and parent to ask the right questions before making a decision.

At Select Basketball, we don’t pressure families into quick commitments. Instead, we offer a professional coaching staff, a long-term player development approach, and a proven track record of success.

Our tryouts are your opportunity to see how we operate, meet our coaching staff, and decide if Select Basketball is the right fit for your family.

What Sets Select Basketball Apart?

🏀 Coaching That Develops Players – Our coaches are professionals. They aren’t parents of players—they are experienced leaders dedicated to player growth. Every Select team has a dedicated coach, but every player benefits from the knowledge and experience of our entire staff.

📢 Clear, Reliable Communication – Families always know what’s happening, when, and why. With 25+ years of refined processes, we ensure there’s no confusion or miscommunication.

📈 A Big-Picture Approach – We focus on long-term development, not just early wins. We start with the fundamentals and build throughout the season. The results? Players who grow into some of the best in the state, region, and even the country.

As players move from our youth program to the high school program, so will the advancement of their development, including college level recruitment, if that is their goal.

💬 What Families Say About Select
“The coaching is the best part of a program—and I loved how you talked about it being so important for players to trust you and accept coaching, to get better every day. I agree that the compare game sucks! Can’t wait to get involved with Select with our kids.”

“We learned so much from last season. I hope my youngest can have the opportunity to play with SELECT.”

“Select is doing it the right way. They truly put the kids first. Not always the easiest, but it’s nice to know a program where integrity is still valued.”

Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Program

Before committing to any program, we encourage families to ask the right questions:

Who will be my coach? What are their qualifications?

  • Are they a professional coach, or are they a parent of a player on the team (which can create conflicts of interest)?

What is the goal of this team/age group?

  • For youth teams, is the focus on development or just playing games?
  • For high school teams, is the focus on what matters to the coach and what gets likes on social media or is it on what is best for the players?

Are we playing in the right tournaments?

  • Why are we traveling? Does the competition actually help my player improve? Could the same development happen locally?
  • If the goal is to get recruited for college, are we playing in events that college coaches will actually attend? Can the coach or program director prove this?

How are practices structured?

  • Are practices focused on player development or just scrimmaging?
  • Are practices just about an individual team’s offensive players or is their a collaborative approach to developing players?

If you’re serious about basketball and want a program that focuses on development, growth, and communication, we’d love to see you at tryouts.
